• School of PTR was founded in 1961
• It was aimed to educate rehabilitation therapists
  in occupational therapy, prostethic-orthotic and
  speech therapy besides physical therapy.

• The education programme included occupational
  therapy, vocational rehabilitation, industrial
  rehabilitation etc. as subjects.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY DEPARTMENT

• OT Unit was founded in 1981 in Hacettepe
  Hospital. In this unit recreation activities like
  carpet making, ceramics, art were mostly
  performed.
• The Unit was moved to the School of PTR in 1984.
• In USA, Canada and UK, the occupational therapy
  studies were investigated.

GROWTH

• There were specialisations in the subjects like
• Sensory Integration Unit was formed. Vocational
  Rehabilitation Unit was founded.
• Vocational Rehabilitation Center was founded in
  1991 with support of United Nations.
• Functional capacity evaluation and work
  simulation system were founded.

• OT application for CP, Rett Syndrome, Down
  Syndrome
• Community based occupational therapy studies and
  home rehabilitation
• Low Vision Unit was established in 2003.

Occupational Therapy MS and PhD Programmes

• Occupational therapy MS and PhD programmes were
  opened in Hacettepe University - Health Sciences
  Institute - 1998.
• 21 master and 9 doctorate thesis were written.
• For the bachelor programme, application is made
  and we are waiting for a response from Higher
  Education Council.
