Soviet Recognition - Why?
  • 1. The time had come to take our head out of the
    sand where the Soviets were concerned.
  • 2.Trade could be started that was needed to help
    ease the depression.
  • 3.Better to have a friend in Russia than an enemy.

Good Neighbor Policy
  • Remove all troops from Latin countries
  • Allow the Latins the freedom to operate
    independently of the U.S.
  • Help solidify the bonds of friendship between the
    U.S. and Latin-America.
  • Save at the same time.

Philippine Independence
  • 1934 law would see independence for the
    Philippines in 1944.
  • Saved U.S. money

Reciprocal Trade
  • Sec. Of State Cordell Hull negotiates a series of
