Missouri Compromise
  • Henry Clay led congress in 1820
  • Conflict over Missouri raised the question of the
    balance between free states and slave states and
    by extension, the future of slavery in the United
    States.
  • Settled the issue, although not to everyones
    satisfaction
  • Missouri became a slave state and Maine was
    admitted as a free state
  • Also banned slavery in the rest of Louisiana
