  • Feedback will be taken from Clubs and schools, as
    well as from referee coaching panel/selectors

What are the Referee Squads?
  • ARRA Academy
  • 10 referees
  • Selection based on ability to go to Premiers and
    beyond
  • Several addition training days 11 25 April 16

  • Referees selected to referee Under 16 and below
  • Northern Region Zone Squad
  • Referees capable of refereeing representative
    fixtures not appointed by NZRU Referee High
    Performance
  • Bs Colts Under 18 Under 85Kg
  • Selection based on ability to referee at this
    level as well as develop and nurture referees who
    have potential to referee at the high performance
    level

What are the Referee Squads? contd.
  • Northern Region New Zealand Academy
  • Selection is an interview with Academy coach and
    Regional Selectors
  • Target young referees with the potential to
    referee at the high performance level
  • There are 3 Academies in NZ with 5-7 referees in
    each academy
  • Northern Central Southern
  • 2 year theoretical training course
  • Once completed the expectation is to apply
    learning's on and off the field back in the local
    province

Importance of 4th 5th Pillars
  • As a referee develops and is selected for higher
    honours the demand increases on the
  • Physical pillar
  • Mental pillar
  • Physical ability to be at the right place at the
    right time as the game gets faster
  • We call this creating time and space
  • Physical longevity of the athlete
  • Mentally the referee has to cope with new
    experiences and pressures on and off the field
  • Look at the referees profile on how best he/she
    manages themselves and handles situations
