7.) I can trace the expansion of Alexanders
empire across parts of Europe and Asia.
  1. Greek city-state of Thebes rebelled and Alexander
destroyed the city. His cruel tactics made the
city-states too fearful to rebel, allowing
Alexander to be the 1st to conquer all of Greece.
  2. Moved troops to Anatolia and defeated the Persian
    forces.
  3. Went to Egypt next and was welcomed as the new
pharaoh because the Egyptians hated the
    Persians.
  4. From Egypt, he moved across Mesopotamia toward
    Persia.
  5. In 331 B.C., Alexander controlled the Persian
    empire.
  6. The next three years were spent conquering parts
    of Central Asia.
  7. In 326 B.C. he reached the Indus River Valley in
India, but his army refused to go any further.
  8. They had been marching and fighting for 11 years!

8.) I can explain the influence of Greek culture
in Alexanders empire.
  1. Alexander and his armies carried their culture
    with them everywhere they went.
  2. Built cities based on Greek culture.
  3. Set up colonies in the conquered lands.
  4. He left behind Greeks to rule his lands.
  5. The Greek culture was blended with the cultures
of Persia, Egypt, and India. This blending is now
    known as the Hellenistic culture.
  6. He established Alexandria in Egypt that became a
center for learning in the Hellenistic world.
