Title: Infant Rescued at Sea
1Infant Rescued at Sea
2A joint U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, and California
Air National Guard rescue effort was necessary to
rescue a sick one year old infant on Sunday after
her parents called for help. Charlotte and Eric
Kaufman along with their two daughters, Cora, 3,
and Lyra, 1, set sail two weeks ago from Mexico,
on the latest leg of a trip around the world. But
when Lyra broke out in a severe rash and got an
infection that did not respond to medication the
California couple sent a distress ping to a
satellite. According to a U.S. Navy news release,
the distress signal was received on Thursday and
the child was rescued on Sunday about 900 miles
off the coast of Mexico. Thats where the medics
treated the child, who is said to be in stable
condition and already improving. But now, the
parents are taking heat for trying to
circumnavigate the globe with a baby on board and
have found themselves stuck in the middle of
a social media firestorm. Critics posted
thousands of negative comments on the parents
Facebook page over the weekend with many showing
disgust that the couple would put their children
in endanger and then want the government to come
save them. The Kaufmans responded with a
statement aboard the USS Vandegrift, stating that
they were well prepared and that this is how our
family has lived for seven years. Additionally,
the couple defends their decision saying that
Eric Kaufman is a U.S. Coast Guard licensed
captain and the trip was carefully planned.

- Holywood legend Mickey Rooney died on Sunday at
the age of 93. Rooney leaves behind a legacy that
spanned 80 years and more than 200 films. Mickey
was born Joe Yule Jr. on September 23, 1920 to
two performers and began his career at 15 months
old in his parents' vaudeville act. He was often
paired with Judy Garland considered his equal
in charisma and ability in top-quality musicals
such as Babes in Arms (1939) and Girl Crazy
(1943). In addition, he was powerful in dramas
including Boys Town (1938), portraying a
juvenile delinquent, and The Human Comedy
(1943), as a small-town telegraph messenger who
delivers news of war casualties to parents back
home. He also starred as Andy Hardy in the
popular Hardy Family film series about an Ohio
teenager growing up. The Hardy films often
featured Garland as his long-suffering friend.
Rooney won two honorary Oscars, the first in
1938, the second in 1982. - Police began removing the pro-Russian
demonstrators occupying eastern Ukrainian
government buildings early Tuesday after a tense
night of confrontation that officials here
accused Moscow of provoking to seek a pretext for
invasion. Protesters were cleared from the
regional administration in Kharkiv although they
remained entrenched Tuesday in similar government
offices in Donetsk, where protesters erected a
barricade of tires and barbed wire. In an effort
to put down the separatist agitation, the
Ukrainian government dispatched its highest-level
police and security officials to the region. The
West has been warning Russia, which annexed
Ukraines Crimean Peninsula in March, against any
incursion into eastern Ukraine. The turn toward
violence has raised fears that Russia is about to
try to duplicate its success in annexing Crimea
last month.
