Plot

• Plot is the story line.
• Plot are the events that take place.
• There are elements of plot
• Exposition, foreshadowing, inciting force,
  conflict, rising action, crisis, climax, falling
  action, resolution.

Setting

• The setting is the time and place where the story
  unfolds.
• There can be more than one setting.
• The setting can change.

Point of View

• The point of view (perspective) relates to who is
  telling the story.
• There are 4 types of points of view
• First person
• Third person objective
• Third person limited
• Omniscient

4 Type of Point of View

• First Person a character in the story tells us
  what is happening and how he/she feels.
• Third Person Objective a person outside of the
  story is telling what happened.
• Third Person Limited a narrator who can tell us
  how a character feels and thinks.
• Omniscient a person telling us the story as if
  they know everything about all the characters
  and how the characters feel and think.

Conflict

• There are 2 types of conflict
• Internal a character is battling his own
  feelings and thoughts.
• External a character is battling an outside
  force.

Character

• There are 3 types of characters
• Protagonist this is the main character and is
  usually a hero.
• Antagonist this is the opposing force of the
  antagonist (the bad guy).
• Foil these are other characters in the story who
  contrast the protagonist.

Theme

• This is the main idea and the meaning of the
  story.
• It is a statement made by the author about humans
  and society.

Tone and Mood

• The tone is the authors feeling about the
  subject of the story.
• The mood is how you feel when you read the story.
  It is the feeling you get.

Figurative Language

• These are the devices used by the author to give
  a message.
• Simile use like or as to compare things.
• Metaphor compares things to describe something
  (do not use like or as).
• Hyperbole an exaggeration
• Alliteration using 2 or more words with the same
  beginning sounds.
• Personification giving inanimate objects
  human-like or living qualities.
• Onomatopoeia using words that sound like the
  noise they make to describe a sound.

Imagery

• This is language that appeals to the senses. The
  descriptions of people or objects are stated in
  terms of our senses.
• Sight
• Smell
• Taste
• Touch
• Hearing
