- Background to the Fischer Family Trust (FFT)
- Independent charity, founded by Mike Fischer,
co-founder of Research Machines (RM). FFT
supports projects in health and education - Education Projects include the data analysis
project managed by Mike Treadaway, using national
data sets provided by DfE and Welsh Assembly
Government - Aim is to help schools make effective use of
value-added test and TA data to raise individual
pupil attainment and improve progress - Analyses are provided to support effective school
self-evaluation - Data provides questions not answers
- Data analysis should be used by schools to
promote discussion, evaluation and planning - Analyses for different groups of pupils, and a
range of indicators, to help identify strengths
or areas for development/intervention - Use the past to inform the future

- What is FFT Live 3.2?
- FFT Live 3.2 is FFTs online reporting system
giving Schools and LAs online access to a range
of FFT data and reports to support target setting
and self evaluation - The reports are based on similar methodologies
and models used in the standard database reports - FFT Live 3.2 gives users access to a greater
range of reports than the previous version of FFT
Live and also includes a number of reports which
are only available online
6 The Hundred of Hoo Academy A member of The
Williamson Trust
- Who is FFT Live 3.2 aimed at?
- FFT Live includes a broad range of reports to
support target setting and self evaluation and
can be used by a wide variety of staff in school - Teachers, Department Heads and Heads of Year will
find the new pupil/subject estimates and value
added information particularly useful in helping
to review progress and set challenging targets. - SLTs can now access a greater range of strategic
data to support whole school and group evaluation
and target setting - School governors can also access school level
data to support SLTs in evaluation and planning - LA staff including advisers, information teams
and senior managers.

- Why use FFT Live?
- Allows quicker access to a wide range of FFT
reports and data for school and LA Staff - Allows access to pupil, group and school data to
support target setting and self evaluation - Some reports (e.g pupil estimates showing a range
of probabilities) are only available on FFT Live - Greater level of flexibility allowing users to
choose their own options - Allows users to export data directly from FFT
Live - Gives access to Self Evaluation booklets
- Online guidance available for individual reports

Williamson Trust
- How do I log-in to FFT Live 3.2?
- Web address is www.fftlive.org
- There are 2 way to log-in to FFT Live
- SCHOOL ADMIN account supplied by LA max 2 per
school. - SCHOOL USER account can view data but cannot
create user accounts or amend data

- The suite of Student Explorer reports give users
access to a comprehensive set of background data
on pupil characteristics and can be used in a
variety of contexts including identifying support
needs, one-to-one tuition, ethnic minority
achievement and narrowing the gap. - The report allow school and Las to recognise
pupil potential as well as the risk of
underachievement.
11 The Hundred of Hoo Academy A member of The
Williamson Trust
- A range of reports which allow LAs and schools to
view value added and estimates data for a group
of schools - The reports include both individual school data
(to support the sharing of best practice across
schools) and aggregated group data (to support
joint school/area working). - LA Administrators to create their own school
groups and provide access to LA users and/or
School users
12 The Hundred of Hoo Academy A member of The
Williamson Trust
- A new export section has been added to FFT Live,
giving users direct access to a range of
pre-defined and user-specific export reports. - The reports allow users to export pupil and
school estimates data currently available in a
number of key FFT Live reports - The new module makes it easier to export data
into school MI systems
13 The Hundred of Hoo Academy A member of The
Williamson Trust
- This new section replaces the old Development
Reports area on the FFT Live main menu - It includes new ideas, enhancements and
developments on FFT Live - Examples of reports currently include in the
development area are KS2 (Other Foundation
Subjects) School and Pupil Estimates.
14 The Hundred of Hoo Academy A member of The
Williamson Trust
- This new section will allow users to view and
access a range of information to ensure that
they get the most out of FFT Live. The new
section includes - FFT Live timetable
- News
- Information on new developments
- Training
- Further help and support on FFT Live
- Any other FFT related information which maybe of
use to LAs and schools
15 The Hundred of Hoo Academy A member of The

- This is the main area for accessing all your FFT
Live reports. It includes all the standard FFT
Live reports to support self evaluation and
target setting. - Value added report can be found on the left-hand
side of the screen whilst Estimate reports can be
found on the right-hand side of the screen.

- What is Value Added?
- Basic Value Added (VA) measures the PROGRESS made
by an individual pupil, or group of pupils,
between Key Stage 2/3 (the starting point) and
Key Stage 3/4 (the end point). - Basic VA compares the progress made by each pupil
with the average progress made by similar
pupils, defined by FFT as pupils with similar
prior attainment, gender and month of birth. - Contextual Value Added, or CVA, is a version of
VA which also takes into account school context
factors and individual pupil context factors - VA or CVA can be calculated for individual
pupils, groups of pupils or for a whole school. - Group or school level VA scores are simply based
on the average of individual pupil VA scores.

Using FFT Live for Target Setting

- For pupils, we know that in general
- KS3/4 attainment is highly dependent on
attainment at KS2/3 - Girls make different progress than boys
- Autumn born pupils have higher attainment than
Summer born pupils - Pupils prior-attainment in English often has a
greater impact on subsequent progress - But we also know that School Context has an
impact on pupil progress - Pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds tend to
make less progress (geodemographic data) - Prior attainment for the cohort can have an
impact on future achievement
22 The Hundred of Hoo Academy A member of The
Williamson Trust
There are 2 basic types of estimates
- PA - Type A (estimate based on similar pupils
nationally)
- SE - Types B (50th percentile) and D (25th
percentile) (estimates based on similar pupils
AND school context)

Williamson Trust
- Q What is Raise Online?
- RAISEonline is a secure web-based system that
provide schools, local authorities and inspectors
with a range of analyses including - Attainment at the end of Key Stage 4
- Progress from Key Stage 2 to 4
- Absence and exclusion
- The Characteristics (often refereed to as
context) of pupils -
29 The Hundred of Hoo Academy A member of The
Williamson Trust
- Q What is Raise for?
- It is an important source of data for schools to
use in self-evaluation - The analyses are used by Inspector in their
pre-inspection briefings.
30 The Hundred of Hoo Academy A member of The
Williamson Trust
- Q How do we gain access to RAISEonline?
- Data is presented in a range of interactive
tables and charts which can be viewed online. - Each school has an Administrator who is
responsible for generating Usernames and
Passwords. - Governors can be added as users, but are unable
to view data for individual pupils. - A Summary Report can be printed for a hard copy
of all data (this was previously know as the Full
Report)
31 The Hundred of Hoo Academy A member of The
Williamson Trust
- Q How often is RAISEonline up-dated?
- The data is up-dated several times a year
- In 2011 Key Stage 4 data was made available on
6th December as unvalidated - In January it was up-dated with Validated data,
as a result of schools completing their checking
exercises.
32 The Hundred of Hoo Academy A member of The
Williamson Trust
- Q What questions should I be asking of the data?
- How does attainment and progress at my school
compare to national averages and the Governments
floor standards? - Do we have any under-performing groups of pupils?
- How might the context of our school affect our
performance? - Are we relatively stronger or weaker in some
subjects compared to others? - How does pupil attendance compare to national
averages?
