From its orifice the canal tapers to the apical
constriction, or minor apical diameter,
which generally is considered the narrowest part
of the canal. From this point the canal widens as
it exits the root at the apical foramen, or major
apical diameter. The space between the minor and
major apical diameters is funnel shaped apical
patency diameter.
