When Mission was Built (Founded)
  • My mission San Juan Bautista was founded on June
24,1797.It is the 15th of California missions.
The nickname for San Juan Bautista was the
    mission of music.

Mission Site
  • The mission site is on the main plaza in the town
that developed the mission same 90 miles
southeast of San Francisco. The mission site San
Juan Bautista is on the diocese of Monterey.

willow leaves. On 1832 mission reported a
    livestock herd of 6,000 cattle, 6,004 sheep,20
swine, 296 horses, and 13 mules. In 1798 and 1832
there was over 90,000 bushels of wheat, barley,
corn, beans, and peas. The Indians harvest wheat,
barley, and corn so a estimate of 2,018 fanegas,
    each about 220 pounds.

Significant Events
  • Mission San Juan Bautista was named after Saint
Juan the Baptist. The mission had 4,106 baptisms
and 1,003 marriages. It had 2,854 burials and
Father Pedro Estevan Tapis joined the
church/mission in 1815 to teach the Indians
singing and music. The mission was the setting
for Alfred Hitchcocks 1957 the production of the
movie Vertigo. The movie stared James Stewart,
Kim Novak, and Barbara Bel Geddes.

12
Current Use of the Mission
  • The mission is still an active catholic church
since 1749. Each December the 21st and or the
22nd the missions church is opened to the public
for the annual midwinter solstice illumination of
the main altar. The mission still has mass every
    day since 1749.

What I Liked Best
  • What I like best is looking for the information.
I found out that there was a movie filmed at my
mission San Juan Bautista! Another cool thing is
that it was called the mission of music.
