Intervention and Support Strategies

  • Dont stop working in lessons that you find hard.
  • Revise your homework schedule if necessary and
    stick to it even if you dont feel like it.
  • Resist the temptation to bury your head in the
    sand talk to someone
  • Ignore what your friends or others are saying
    they are doing you are working for your life
  • Keep yourself going by making a list!!!!!!

Tips for parents
  • Agree the balance between work and social life.
  • When it goes pear shaped talk to them about the
    issues berating will have a negative effect.
  • Consider a reward structure little and often is
    more rewarding.
  • Be flexible
  • If they say they have no homework chances
    are it is not true.
  • If your child is anxious or withdrawn, encourage
    them to talk to you or another trusted adult.
  • Teenagers often have an all or nothing
    catastrophic approach to difficulties, again
    encourage them to talk to you or a trusted adult.

Revision re-looking at work you lave learnt
previously.
  • Start revision early
  • Make a realistic revision timetable and rope your
    parents into helping you create it.
  • Get one good revision aide for each subject.
  • Keep everything you need in one place.
  • Go to the revision sessions and make them work
    for you.
  • Find out about the best revision techniques for
    that subject.
  • Have a start and finish time and stick to them.
  • Get into the routine of your revision plan
  • Stop and take a break.
  • Dont be influenced by friends who talk about how
    little they are doing.
  • Tips for parents
  • Talk to your child about how you can help
  • Provide the pens etc that they need, is it really
    worth a battle over a 10p pen.
  • Support them in sticking to their revision plan
  • Make them take a break
  • Praise them
  • Provide snacks and water.
  • Be flexible, if a change is made agree when they
    are going to make it up.
  • Show an interest
