Dance Dance Revolution
  • Computer game that involves the player to move
    his or her feet on a mat copying the dance steps
    shown on the screen
  • Since created there have been regular players,
    dance clubs, and even tournaments
  • People use the game regularly to lose weight with
    the workout mode
  • Located in many arcades and popular with all ages

History of DDR
  • Introduced in Japan in 2005 by Konami
  • 90 versions have been made since 2005
  • Different levels ranging from easy to hard
  • Great play list of songs categorized into their
    appropriate challenge levels
  • Adopted by West Virginia public schools as part
    of the physical education curriculum

  • West Virginia ranks in the top 3 U.S. states
    highest for obesity
  • Leads in rates of high blood pressure
  • Fourth in diabetes

  • Based on study using 85 kids showed excessive
    weight loss along with change in diets
  • DDR has been incorporated into gym class as an
    alternative to other sports

  • All of West Virginia middle schools use DDR ( 175
    )
  • Expect 753 more public schools to add workout
    within the next 3 years
  • The game will soon be available to almost 280,000
    public school students across the state

How will it be used?
  • A curriculum will be developed around DDR so it
    will be used correctly and so progress can be
    easily tracked.

Funding
  • Game costs 740 for the kit including
  • Xbox game console, 2 dance pads, and software
  • Funding comes from state-based agencies
  • Konami also contributes
