The Arrest of Princip 28 June 1914
The arrest of Gavrilo Princip a Bosnian Serb
for the assassination of the Archduke and his
wife started the countdown that led to WW1.

The Countdown continues 23 July Austria sends
an ultimatum to Serbia.
The Government expects the answer of the
Serbian Government to reach it not later than
Saturday 25th at six in the afternoon
The Austrian Chancellor Berchtold - made the 10
demands impossible for Serbia to
accept..deliberately!
We must make sure that Serbia cannot fulfil the
ten demands
Two days later, as expected, Serbia refused two
of the ten demands.

Germanys invasion of Belgium had violated
Belgian neutrality. Through the Treaty of London
(1839) Britain had guaranteed Belgian neutrality.
Britain asked Germany to withdraw when she
refused Britain declared war on Germany.
