Significance
  • Colin Powell served in Vietnam and was a
battalion commander. Because he served his
country with such intelligence and ability,he is
a highly respected American. Because of this,
Americas Promise is an organization that has
grown and become more well known. He is also a
very powerful figure of our government.
  • On a personal note, my cousin works for the State
Department and traveled with and provided
security for Colin Powell. He regarded him as
professional, trustworthy, honest, and feels that
he is great at looking out for America...and our
    allies.

Struggles/Obstacles
  • Racism was an issue growing up. He was treated
poorly because of his color and heritage. There
was also inequality in the U.S. Military. He also
had difficulty enacting a military plan at times.
Colin Powell overcame all these obstacles to
    become a great American.
