14Catherines UCI Transcript
15UC Issues
- Do not have students repeat courses at CCC where
they earned a C- or lower at the UC. Those
courses must be repeated at a UC summer is
acceptable. - Students wanting to return to the UC that they
came from cannot use IGETC. - Students that attend a UC, come to CCC, then go
to another UC, can use IGETC. - Can use Stats classes outside the math department
on IGETC if the course meets the rigor of the
IGETC Standards. Ex. PSYCH 112, Statistics for
Psychology
16UC Admission Reminders
- Admission reminder
- 1. Students from one UC must be re-admissible
to that UC if they want to transfer to a
different UC. - 2. Students that go to a UC and complete the GE
pattern have completed the GE for any other UC.
This is referred to as reciprocity. -
17CSU Issues
- Students who attend a CSU and then attend CCC and
want to return to a CSU, may be able to use the
CSUGE pattern (check with receiving campus).
However, the course taken at the CSU must be
placed in the same GE area as the CSU where the
course was taken. - Upper division coursework may be used on CSUGE
- CSU students are required to complete 39 semester
units of lower division GE to graduate. - You can use D- on the CSUGE pattern, however,
most campuses require a C in the golden 4 for
admission. The overall CSUGE GPA must be 2.0.
18Proposal for Assist to Publish External Exam
Articulation AP, IB, CLEP
- CIAC proposal to Assist in March 2009 to post
external exam articulation including AP, IB and
CLEP - External Exam applicability to the IGETC and CSU
GE - Individual CSU and UC exam policies, including
major prep - Opportunity for CSU and UC campuses to identify
external exam credit at the campus level - Provides CCC counselors and transfer students
with consistent, direct and accurate information - Outcome looks favorable and, if approved,
implementation will occur fall 2009
19AP Example
- John has completed the following AP exams and
wants to transfer to UC - AP English composition (4)
- AP English composition and literature (4)
- AP Spanish (5)
- AP Environmental Science (3)
- AP Political Science (3)
20AP Example Results
- 2 AP English exams do NOT meet minimum
composition admission requirement for UC - AP English composition and Literature does not
clear Critical Thinking for UC or CSU - Check to see if an AP equates to a course at the
CSU or UC - AP Environmental Science (along with AP Physics
C) grants only 3 semester units toward IGETC Area
5A with lab. Students must take a 4 semester/5
quarter unit Biological Science course to clear
area 5 - AP Political Science can be used to clear CSU
American Institutions requirement US 2 as well as
Social and Behavioral Science IGETC Area 4
21Current IB Policy for IGETC
- UC When CCC faculty equates credit for IB exams
as equivalent to CCC IGETC approved courses they
can be used. - CSU There is no current systemwide policy for
IB. - Now for the good news
22IB Chart Status
- Hopeful Future
- Draft version of IB chart available
- UC/CSU expects to have a response in May
- Hoping IGETC subcommittee of ICAS will respond to
the joint UC/CSU policy request in time for fall
2009 - Proposal for Assist to Publish IB Articulation
