  • Most fish would be gasping their last breath if
they left the safety of their watery homes, not
    the Mudskipper!

3
Physical Characteristics
  • The Mudskippers eyes stick up giving it a sort
    of frog-like look.
  • Its fins are like small legs.
  • They have dorsal fins similar to a fishes.
  • They can be 4-12 inches long.
  • Their skin is olive brown with bluish spots and
    makings.

4
Habitat
  • Mudskippers live in mudflats and mangrove areas
in Australia and few other parts of the world.
They live on land and water. They spend three
quarters of their time on land. They make their
    burrows in the mud.

5
Feeding
  • Mudskippers feed on insects, sandworms and small
crustaceans (found in Mangrove swamps). Crabs can
sometimes be predators to the Mudskipper. Bigger
Mudskippers also prey on younger smaller
    Mudskippers.

6
Breeding
  • In mating season the male Mudskippers develop
brighter colors on their back and sides. The
females then come and lay eggs and the males
fertilize them. The eggs hatch 2 to 3 weeks
later. When they hatch they swim from the burrow
at high tide, they have to watch out for other
animals so they dont become prey.

7
Fun Facts
  • Mudskippers dig their burrows 20 inches or deeper
by spitting mouthfuls of mud out. Their eyes are
adapted to land and water and can move
separately. At high tides they stay in their
burrows for up to 2 hours.

8
  • I chose the Mudskipper because it looked
interesting and funny in the Australia video. I
also chose it because it seemed weird when they
said its a fish and spends most of their time on
land and what it looks like. I also like how it
moves and what it does on land.
