Scan Tool Group Activity
  • Scan tool companies are very dependent on OEM
    information access
  • HD OBD Carb Rule
  • NASTF effort
  • Collaboration effort with EGEA in Europe and
    JAMTA in Japan
  • Met with EGEA at Automechanika in Frankfurt
  • Met with Jamta at Japan Tech Week
  • SAE Participation
  • Congress earlier this month
  • Government and Industry May Meeting 11

Scan Tool Group Activity (Continued)
  • ISO Participation
  • TF5 Right now ETI is on the mailing list. That
    may not work in the future. We may have to
    become more active. In order for me to continue
    to provide updates I will have to officially join
    and attend at least one meeting per year.

  • There are two new task forces - TF10 and TF11
    MVCI and ODX respectively. These will become
    important to ETI Scan Tool members.
  • GM License update
  • EPA and CARB letters have been sent to Rob Brown
    instructing them that they failed to justify
    their fee structure. They are to submit a
    different plan to EPA and CARB.
  • CARB meeting here at ToolTech
  • Regarding vehicle communication issues
    encountered during the certification process.

Underhood Technology Group Activity
  • I/M Subcommittee
  • I/M flow chart still being worked on by Bernie
    Carr and Mike McCarthy. We should see it soon
  • CAN implementation charts turned over to Sierra
    Research at the request of the states that want
    to use this information for a type of fraud
    detection.
  • Attempted to charge for I/M report. We will
    probably make it free again and add OBD testing
    implementation schedules including protocols
    covered
  • Will be guest speaker and participate in CITA
    conference in late May in Chicago
  • 42 Volt Committee
  • No activity
  • A/C Committee
  • We allowed the Mobile Air Conditioning Society to
    borrow our CAN implementation charts for an
    article in there newsletter, otherwise no activity

Under Car Group Activity
  • Tech Week New Product Guidelines (NPIGs) updated
    to include Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems
  • Presentation on TPMS needs given on behalf of ETI
    members at the 2004 SEMA show in Las Vegas

Collision Repair Group
  • Vertical group is attempting to duplicate
    domestic relations with Asian carmakers in order
    to improve Japan Tech Week Collision content.
  • There is a new emphasis on getting OEM
    dimensional drawings in electronic format.
  • These will be stored in the TEK-NET Library

Shop Management Information Software Group
  • Trying to get CARB to recognize third party
    information providers as covered persons under
    future revisions of the service information
    rulemaking
  • ETI is looking into what kind of collaboration
    among member companies is possible regarding the
    prosecution of entities involved in software
    piracy

Detroit Tech Week
  • Dates are June 21 to 24
  • Web based sign up sheet has been available for a
    couple of months now
  • Headquarter Hotel is the Doubletree in Romulus
    very near the airport
  • Banquet (Henry Ford Museum) (25th anniversary)
  • GM collision is back on, but scan tool meeting is
    only for the seven licensees
  • Volvo Participation is planned but not secure yet
  • VW will be sending their engineers from Germany
    again
  • Gangolf Feiter (GM Europe and ISO TF5 chairman)
    is going to try to make it to do a presentation
    on ODX and MVCI
  • We need to get going on inviting some of Tech
    Week founders to the banquet.

Japan Tech Week
  • Dates Monday, December 5, 2005 - Thursday,
    December 8, 2005
  • This year it will be in the USA
  • The Crowne Plaza Redondo Beach, CA has been
    chosen again.
  • We are in the process of getting Hino and
    Mitsubishi Fuso involved due to future HD OBD
    regulations
  • Planning meetings need to be scheduled
  • (1) ETI and JAMA some time in early July
  • (2) California in October

TEK-NET Library Update
  • Library now contains all files including both
    2004 Tech Weeks.
  • New scan tool members receive entire library once
    all membership requirements are met.
  • Projects we are behind on
  • Categorize, index and review all documents
    received since 1998
  • Place all files and index on CD powered by
    database
  • Starting with this Tech Week we are going to be
    asking for electronic body drawings for the
    Collision Repair Group
