Title: Chapter 2 Discussion

Chapter 2 Discussion
  • Chapter 2 Verses 1-13
  • The Jewish Pentecost is called what in Ex
    2314-19 and Deut 1610?
  • The Feast of Weeks - "Celebrate the Feast of
Weeks to the LORD your God by giving a freewill
offering in proportion to the blessings the LORD
    your God has given you.
  • The Feast of Weeks, also known as Harvest (Exodus
2316), Shavuot (Hebrew), the Day of Firstfruits
(Numbers 2826), or Pentecost, was a festival of
joy and thanksgiving celebrating the completion
of the harvest season. It was the second major
feast in which all able-bodied Jewish males were
required to attend (the other two being Passover
and the Feast of Tabernacles). It was celebrated
as a sabbath with rest from ordinary labors and
the calling of a holy convocation (Leviticus
    2321 Numbers 2826).
  • A violent wind is a symbol of what?
  • Spirit of God See Eze 379,14 and JN 38
  • The upper room may have been a room in the
    temple. Chapter 1
  • Speaking in Tongues is a result of what? Acts
    15
  • Jesus referred to this as being baptized with the
    Holy Spirit
  • In verse 4 all of them probably meant only the
12 and not the 120 See Lk 2449 again

  • Chapter 2 Verses 14-36
  • What is the Paradox in this section of Chapter 2
    based on Peters biblical quotes!
  • Jesus is the LORD God Joel 227, Romans 105-13
  • Jesus is distinct from the LORD God Psalm
    1101, Acts 233, 1 John 510
  • Who is The Godhead Matt 2919, Acts 236, John
    1030-36
  • What did Peter affirm starting in 214
  • Here are the basic elements of Peter's Gospel
    Presentation
  • God affirmed Jesus by miracles which he did among
    you as you yourselves observed.
  • You had Jesus crucified, but this was also in
    accordance with God's plan
  • God raised him from the dead in accordance with
    prophecies concerning the Messiah
  • Jesus now sits at God's right hand and has sent
down the Holy Spirit which you witness now.
  • Jesus had been revealed to be Lord and Messiah.
  • Explain how Jesus is God yet different from the
Father who is God and different from the Holy
    Spirit?

Chapter 2 Discussion Continued
  • Chapter 2 Verses 37-41
  • How do we know 3000 people were baptized?
  • Lets keep it simple-How else would the church
have started! The message they received claimed
to be based not simply upon propositional truth,
but upon historical facts, which apparently they
    were incapable of denying.
  • How does Peters sermon prove who Jesus was and
    did?
  • The crowd knew of the miracles Jesus performed
and the fact that he rose from the dead and they
reaffirmed these things through their baptism.
If they were not true they would not have
    accepted Peters invitation.
  • Read verse 37 and 38 where they asked "what shall
we do?", essentially they were saying "I
believed, therefore what should I do? So Peter
is saying, "If you truly believe, then prove it
    by repenting and getting baptized."
  • So is baptism a requirement to receiving the Holy
    Spirit?
  • Also look at in Acts 1043. Peter again
preaching the gospel says, "that through his name
whosoever believeth in him shall receive
remission of sins." without making reference to
baptism. In fact those in Acts 10 he preached to
received the Holy Spirit before they got wet!
They received it upon hearing and believing the
message. Yet such would not have been possible if
we interpret Acts 238 to mean that you have to
get water baptized before you can receive the
Holy Spirit. This again proves that water baptism
is not a requirement for salvation, but rather an
affirmation  and identification of one's position
    in Christ.
  • How do we know who Jesus is? Prove it?

Chapter 2 Discussion Continued
  • Chapter 2 Verses 42-47
  • Why did these Christians stay together?
  • Many were from other towns and needed places to
    stay
  • They thought Christs return was imminent
  • Why did they break bread together?
  • Maybe to remember the death of our Lord through
the wine and the bread as He instituted at the
    Last Supper.
  • Or maybe to just eat together in fellowship
  • Why are miracles important?
  • Miracles affirm the Word. Not only did Jesus do
miracles, but the Apostles also did them. For
whenever God speaks He affirms his word.
  • Give your experience with miracles?
