College, Bakersfield, created as the 19th campus
of the California State University and Colleges
system 375 - acre campus at the western edge of
Bakersfield, surrounded primarily by oil pumps
and fields for cotton, corn, and sorghum 1967 -
Dr. Paul F. Romberg appointed as the first
president Fall 1970 CSCB opened with 800
full-time equivalent students, 70 instructors,
and 11 buildings 1974 - Dr. Jacob P. Frankel
appointed as the second president 1983 - Dr.
Tomás A. Arciniega appointed as the third
president 1987 - campus redesignated California
State University, Bakersfield
