Introduction

• Drexels Strategic Plan calls for the creation of
  a central Office of International Programs to
  provide Drexel with the infrastructure necessary
  to take advantage of opportunities and challenges
  in this era of globalization.
• This step reflects concerns with global issues in
  science and technology, politics, economics, and
  culture awareness of the benefits of
  international learning experiences and research
  collaboration and the need to attract
  international scholars and students to Drexel.

Mission

• The mission of the Office of International
  Programs is
• to facilitate multidisciplinary, international
  educational programs across the university
  enhance the contributions to international
  education of the colleges and other academic
  units and increase the global nature of the
  institution.

Goals for fall term 2007-08

• Prepare an inventory of existing international
  initiatives within the University
• Develop a database of faculty expertise
• Develop and maintain a database of international
  programs and opportunities.
• Conduct an assessment of Drexels strategic needs
  and strengths for partnerships abroad

• Establish a Council of International Programs and
  work closely with it to build the international
  dimension of the university
• - to coordinate international activities across
  the campus
• - to draw on best practices and expertise from
  different academic disciplines and administrative
  units and
• - to include perspectives across the
  curriculum.

Goals for fall term 2007-08

• Propose policies and procedures for developing
  cooperation with international partners (working
  with the Council and drawing on the best
  practices of other universities).
• Design and implement a procedure for reviewing
  all Memoranda of Understanding for international
  cooperation through the Provosts Office

Goals for fall term 2007-08

• Begin to develop global initiatives in line with
  the Offices mission and the University Strategic
  Plan (including faculty development and education
  for global awareness on campus).
• Launch an International Programs web site,
  increase visibility of Drexels international
  initiatives, and develop plans for coordinating
  programs for international visitors.

Longer Range Goals

• Develop strategies for promoting Drexels global
  standing and international presence.
• Promote high quality international exchanges,
  cooperative educational experiences, and study
  abroad opportunities.
• Enhance awareness of global issues,
  opportunities, and challenges among members of
  the Drexel community.

Longer Range Goals

• Promote undergraduate and graduate research in
  global arenas or with global understanding
  working with the Vice Provost for Academic
  Affairs and the Vice Provost for Research.
• Promote opportunities to develop language skills
  and cultural competency consistent with
  successful international experiences.
• Promote links to international alumni
