The basics of the Rassias Method
  • Model choral repeat
  • CUE / SNAP / POINT / LOOK AND MOVE
  • Errors peer correction
  • Close with choral repeat

ESSENTIAL GUIDELINES
  • Conduct class ENTIRELY in the target language
    that means NO ENGLISH EVER!
  • Involve all students avoid patterns --keep them
    thinking theyll be called on next.
  • Use BODY LANGUAGE instead of English mime,
    charades, exaggerated emotion, drama!
  • Keep up the pace, avoid pauses but dont rush.
  • Never explain grammar. Thats for the main
    class. Drill is for drilling!!

  • Move AROUND!!
  • Be in your face
  • Leap, jump, run from student to student
  • Drill should be a WORKOUT!

Methodology- ERRORS
  • Be ecstatic with correct answers, encouraging
    with mistakes
  • Quickly call on 2nd student for correction
  • Move in tight, crouch down for correction
  • After 3 misses, choral repeat

EMOTION!!!!!
  • BE EMOTIONAL!!
  • When correcting mistakes, let your face and body
    show that the answer is wrong (Casi! Lo siento!
    etc.)
  • If the answer is correct, be ECSTATIC! (Bien!
    Estupendo!

Professionalism
  • You must prepare thoroughly for drill each day by
    reviewing the syllabus, textbook, and drill
    exercises
  • You must keep in contact with your section
    professor (meetings, e-mail, etc.)
  • Keep a business attitude in class leave
    chatting for outside the classroom
