• FADH and NADH are passed to hydrogen carriers
• The H are removed
• The H are split into H and electrons
• The H go into the mitochondrial matrix
• The electrons continue to the electron carriers
• The electrons release energy as they pass down
  the carriers

• This energy is used to convert ADP to ATP
• At the end of the carriers, the electron is given
