4
Charter
  • To design and implement the CUL infrastructure
    for handling multimedia assets.

5
Charge to the Team
I think that the design and implementation of
capabilities necessary to broadly support
management and use of diverse digital media is
one of the most important challenges for the
Library.  The charge to this team is to exercise
leadership in bringing significant new
capabilities into everyday use within the next
year. Tom Hickerson
6
Create a vision
  • of the way multimedia assets will be handled by
CUL, including the components that support the
    vision.

7
Procedure
  • Create a vision for Library-centric MM services.
  • Review existing projects for potential emulation
  • Define needed components to support the vision.
  • Establish criteria for software and hardware to
    address each component.
  • Identify and gather information on hardware and
    software products and vendors.
  • Update the vision based upon the information
gained and the proposed implementation process.
  • Apply the vision to known collections, e.g.
    Veterinary Procedures, Dr. Streeters project,
    C-Theory Multimedia, and general applications
    library-wide.
  • Create a project plan (actions, resources,
    timeline) to implement the project.

8
SuggestionReverse engineering
  • Lets find out what it takes to provide library
support for MM services to the pilot projects
  • Create a vision for other library services to
    support MM projects

9
Review current Cornell initiatives
  • that address various components of the digital
    video and audio infrastructure.

10
Reverse Engineering
  • Limit our vision to known collections, e.g.
    Veterinary Procedures, Dr. Streeters project,
    C-Theory Multimedia, and general applications
    library-wide.
  • Create a project plan (actions, resources,
    timeline) to implement the projects.
  • Define needed components to support the projects.
  • Establish criteria for software and hardware to
    address each component.
  • Identify and gather information on hardware and
    software products and vendors.
  • Review other projects for potential emulation

11
Create a vision
  • for library services to support MM projects,
  • based upon the information gained and the
    proposed implementation process.

12
Pilot Projects
  • Vet school procedure videos
  • D. Streeter entrpreneur interviews

13
  • Discussion
