Introduction to PDPSession 1
  • To introduce you to the process of Personal
    Development Planning and portfolio building.
  • To enable you to access the on-line PDP resource.

Aspirations and GoalsSession 1
  • To enable you to find out about each other.
  • To support you to develop reflective thinking
    techniques.
  • To identify what your aspirations and goals are.

Activity session 1
  • Working with a neighbour, find out who they are,
    where they are from, family, hobbies, interests
    etc.
  • Where do they see themselves in 1, 5 and 10 years
    time?
  • Write the information down, and be prepared to
    introduce your neighbour to the group!

Transferable SkillsSession 2
  • To identify the skills you already have.
  • To develop an understanding of the range of
    transferable skills and how they can be used.

Activity session 2
  • Write your own name in the middle of a sheet of
    A4 paper.
  • Write a statement about yourself in each of the
    corners (eg, coaches football team, learning to
    play the piano etc)
  • ONE OF THE STATEMENTS SHOULD BE FALSE!!!!
  • With your own sheet of paper, walk around the
    room introducing yourself to others, and try to
    guess which of the statements is untrue.

  • To continue to develop awareness of transferable
    skills.
  • To identify prior achievement of core skills,
    including IT, Problem Solving, Communication and
    Working with Others.

Activity session 2
  • Working on your own, choose something that you
    do, eg, a family responsibility, a particular
    hobby or interest, or some paid or voluntary
    work.
  • List all the things you have to do, to be able to
    do this activity well.

Work with your neighbour to compare answers-
  • Each person should be prepared to add skills to
    each others list as you identify additional
    skills necessary for the task outlined.
  • Now work in groups of four, and following
    discussion, build up the skills identified within
    each others task, giving each person a wider
    range of skills which have been agreed by the
    group.

  • Did you add more skills to others lists?
  • How did it feel to have others add skills to your
    list that they have identified as necessary to
    undertake the task involved?
