What is RPL?
  • NSB Regulations No 18787 of 28 Mar 1998
  • - the giving of credit to what learners already
    know and can do regardless of whether this
    learning was achieved formally, informally or
    non-formally

Purpose of this policy
  • To generate consensus around the criteria and
    support systems within which the integrity and
    quality of all assessments will be protected
    while at the same time extending the
    opportunities and benefits of RPL to all learners
    and stakeholders
  • To mobilise education and training to develop
    systems whereby alternative forms of learning can
    be recognised

The process of recognising prior learning
  • Identifying what the candidate knows and can do
  • Matching the candidates skills, knowledge and
    experience to specific unit standards and exit
    level outcomes of qualifications
  • Assessing the candidate against those standards
  • Crediting the candidate for skills, knowledge and
    experience built up through formal, informal and
    non-formal learning that occurred in the past

  • There are different purposes for RPL, i.e.
  • personal development
  • certification
  • access to further learning
  • promotion
  • career change

  • Identification of gaps in learners competence in
    terms of a qualification
