History FNV Bondgenoten

• Result of a merger between 4 unions in 1998
• --services and trade (the poor one)
• --industrie (the rich one)
• --transport (to small)
• --food (to small)

More than 1000 employees

• 490.000 members and more than 1000 employees at
  the start
• At this moment 472000 members and 900 employees
• And still a risk of a necessary reorganisation

Crash 2002

• A loss of almost 2/3th of her means
• A loss of almost 200 million euros
• Due to mismanagement and the internetcrises

A start in 1998 without a blueprint

• No integrationplan at the start in 1998
• For political reasens
• First a merger and afterwarts a democratic
  discussion about the structure is not very wise
• Unionofficers are enterprising but are no
  enterpreneurs!

The restructuring in 2002

• Almost 1/5th of the colleages were fired
• The first plan was to diminish every department
  from the union proportional
• The better plan was to keep in service every
  collegea directly involved in executing our
  primairy task serving our members
• Everybody else was fired / the most expensive
  social plan in our histiry

What personel do you need

• As less as possible employees behind a desk
• As much as possible employees in the factories,
  in the shops, visible for the workers. Collegeas
  trained to go out on the street and in the
  companies, visible for members and potentionel
  members.
• A lot of well trained colleged to serve the
  individual members when they have questions or a
  problem with their employer

At this moment

• More officers for the trade and service part of
  our union
• Less officers for the old sectors, industrie
• Introducing organisers, the american model
