well-being of people with certain types of
pacemaker or other medical implants. It could
wipe your credit card and it is possible that
iron objects brought too close can become
missiles.
Compressed gas almost certainly in a gas
cylinder These are especially dangerous in a fire
Explosive substances
Cryogenic hazard, a sign usually used for large
stores of liquid nitrogen or other liquefied
gases. Potential to cause very serious burns,
asphyxiation, damage to materials.
Laser radiation. Beware, lasers are not always
visible.
Highly flammable or extremely flammable substance
Harmful usually used in connection with
chemical substances
Oxidising substance. Greatly assists fire. Note
the subtle difference in symbol from the previous.
Corrosive could burn the skin and any vapours
would affect your lungs
Biological hazard
Radiation this is used both for X-ray machines,
which can be turned off by disconnecting them
from the mains, and for radioactive substances,
which should normally be inside shields.
Toxic or highly toxic substance
Potentially explosive atmosphere
