NH4 OH- ?? NH3 H2O

• Below 7pH, soluble NH3
• Above 12pH, disolved gas
• 7-12pH, coexist
• Higher temp, higher pH ? removable gas
• Too high of temperature slows air flow
• Common low temp pH 11, or 120oF pH 9.5

What to do with Ammonia?

• 1) Air dispersal
• Advantage Low initial cost, low maintenance cost
• Disadvantage Temperature limits efficiency,
  disperses ammonia into atmosphere
• 2) Concentration as Ammoniom Sulfate
• Advantage No air emissions, conservation of
  energy
• Disadvantage High initial cost, high maintenance
  cost, Must dispose of ammonium sulfate
• 3) Thermal destruction
• Advantage Outputs N2 and small levels of NH3
  into atmosphere
• Disadvantage High initial cost, high maintenance
  cost
