The introduction

• This book is a story about a boy who was afraid
  of the sea and was the chiefs son. He was to be
  the most bravest boy on Hikieru. So he heads of
  to an Island that is called High Island. It has a
  volcano on it. He builds up his courage and he
  comes home and is called Mafatu The boy who's not
  afraid in stead of being called the boy who was
  afraid. If you want to know about the book, READ
  IT!

The meaning to the book

• Well Mafatu has to get braver and more
  courageous. He has to show his Father and his
  people who live on Hikueru that he is courageous
  and can be the next chief.

The Main Character

• The Main character is Mafatu.When I started the
  book Mafatu was a BIG COWARD. The reason of him
  being a coward is because of the ocean, When he
  was three years old there was a huricane and his
  mother died with him clinging onto her neck. Ever
  since he has been afraid of the ocean. Then he
  now goes out to SEA and faces his fear.

URI

• Uri is Mafatus dog. He is Mafatus best friend.
  He follows him around everywhere. He goes out to
  sea with Mafatu and they go to High Island,
  that is the is land that he goes to for a few
  weeks.

KIVI

• Kivi is an Albatross. He is Mafatus bird and is
  his best friend. He also leads Uri and Mafatu to
  High Island when they desperately need help.

Tavana Nui

• Tavana Nui is Mafatus father he is the chief of
  Hikueru. He is very jealous because all the other
  boys dads always say that he is to be the
  greatest warrior ever and the chief cannot say
  anything to Mafatu because the boy only wants to
  make spears and that is woman's work.

This is a whole bunch of chiefs

Mafatu kills the tiger shark

• The tiger shark falls right into Mafatus trap
  that Mafatu set made out of the whale skeleton
  bones.The tiger shark tries to escape. He jumps
  out of the trap and Mafatu right after him with
  his knife and stabs the shark atleast ten times
  then the tiger shark drowns.

Mafatu kills the wild boar

• While Uri was exploring the forest Mafatu was
  wandering around, when suddenly he heard
  something behind him it was a pig that was
  charging for Mafatu big time. Then Mafatu threw
  his spear at the Boar and Mafatu and Uri had a
  nice supper.

The Idol

• The idol is the statue on High Island. Mafatu
  steals the spear from the idol. It is exactly
  like someone stealing a cross from a church. The
  Eaters of Men noticed it and chased Mafatu. He
  escaped through the barrier reef.

The Eaters of Men

• The eaters of men are the people who live on high
  Island and eat men for sacrifice. They kill the
  people that they capture by hanging them.

The Settings

• The main setting is Hikueru. That is Mafatus
  homeland. Another setting is High Island where
  Mafatu and Uri and Kivi run off to and have a big
  adventure.One of the biggest settings is the
  ocean where he almost drowns from a gigantic wave
  storm that smashes his canoe.

Problems and Solutions 1

• The first problem is Mafatu and his mom were
  caught in a hurricane when he was three years
  old. His mother died.
• The Solution to him was to fear the sea forever.

Problems and Solutions 2

• The Second problem is that he is in the ocean and
  is drowning with out food or water and cloths.
• Solution
• The solution is for Kivi to come and guide them
  to High Island .

Problems and Solutions 3

• A problem is that he hasnt got any friends on
  Hikueru except Uri and Kivi.
• Solution
• The solution to this problem is that he goes to
  High Island and gets more courageous. People on
  his Island will not make fun of him and will be
  his friend if he is more courageous.

THE FINAL PROBLEM AND SOLUTION

• The final problem is that he is getting chased by
  the Cannibals the eaters of men.
• The Solution he runs away as fast as he can and
  has a sail and hopes for wind.

The thing that I liked about the book

• The thing that I liked about the book was how
  Mafatu had courage to to run away from home and
  the adventures that he had

What I ddn't like about the book

• The thing that I didnt like about the book was
  that Mafatu died in the end when he came home and
  fell in to Tavana Nuis hands.

How Mafatu got home

• The way Mafatu got home was him escaping from the
  eaters of men. They chased him until they hit a
  rock and got stuck.Then he and Uri were on there

• I would give this book a rating of between (9 to
  10). This book is a great book

Conclusion

• This book is very good. It has a lot of difficult
  language and words in Polynesian but after a
  while you understand the Polynesian words and
  what they mean. Have a good time reading the book
  and enjoy it.
