Title: CSys Contribution

1
CSys Contribution
  • So far Design and initial development of a
    wireless network emulation platform (running
    realtime)
  • What is next? Usage of te emulator in order to
access the performance of packet services (
    implementation refinments of the emulator)
  • Scenarios
  • First implementation is dedicated for UMTS
    performance emulation
  • Later Hetrogenous mixture of cellular networks
and WLAN can probably be emulated

2
Hardware platform
  • Two servers One application server and one proxy
server (hardware already available for CSys Lab)
  • Proxy server will be used for proxying of FTP and
HTTP traffic. It also runs the wireless networks
    emulator
  • The User (client) connect to the internet
(application server) through the proxy in order
to emulate te performance of e.g. UMTS
  • Application server runs services such as
streaming and users (clents) can access it via
    the proxy server

3
Usage
Application Server (eg. Streaming)
Buffer
Delay/ Erase
Configuration files
Log files
4
Potential Refinments
  • Make the emulator accomodate several users, each
one specifying his/her needed celluar network
    parameters
  • Provide extensive logging information for
analysis of results, not only end-2-end transport
layer information but also information concerning
    lower layers.
  • Make the emulator run continously in real time
  • Other enhancements?

5
Potential colaboration
  • Performance analysis of packet services (eg.
VoIP, Gaming, File downloading) over a UMTS
network that is showing dynamic behaviour (such
    as bandwidth fluctations, discontinuties and
    variable delays...)
