1The Song of the People
When a woman of an African tribe finds out that
she is pregnant, she goes to the jungle with the
other women and together they talk, share, stay
in silence and meditate until naturally the song
of the new person does come forth and expresses
itself. Â When the baby is born, the community
gets together and they chant his song to him/her.
Afterwards, when the child begins his/her
education and learning, the people get together
and chant to him/her his/her song. When he/she
becomes an adult, the community gathers together
again and chants. When the moment of the
wedding comes, the person hears again his/her
song.
2Â Finally, when his/her spirit is about to
leave this world, the family and his/her friends
and companions do come close to her/him and they
chant his/her song, to accompany his/her in the
travel. In this African tribe, there is
another occasion in which the song is
chanted. If in any moment of his/her life the
person does commit a crime or an aberrant social
action, they take the person to the center of the
village and the people of the community do form
then a circle around him/her. Then, they chant
to him/her his song.
3The tribe, the community, does thus recognize
that the correction of the antisocial conducts
does not go through punishment or isolation But
goes through Love and the discovering and
re-embodying of his/her true Identity. When we
do recognize our own song, there are no more
desires neither needs to harm anybody, no human
or non-human animal or any life form, past,
present or future on this beautiful and Wounded
Earth. " Â Your friends, your companions, do
know in teir hearts your song. And they do
chant it when you forget it. Â Those who love
you cannot be fooled by the errors and mistakes
you do make or the obscure images that you do
show to others.
4They do remember your beauty when you feel ugly
your integrity when you are broken your
innocence when you feel guilty and your purpose
when you are confused. Â Tolba Phanem
