2
Paul Cezanne
  • Cezanne was the foremost artist in the abstract
    revolution of modern painting
  • Although his early work was impressionist in
style, he later tried to recreate nature by using
    geometric forms

3
Timeline (1930 - 1906)
  • Cezanne was a French painter, born in
    Aix-en-Provence
  • He was a close friend of Emile Zola
  • He went to Paris in 1861 where he met Pissarro,
    who greatly influenced him
  • His mature work changed eventually to cubism
where he used shapes to create landscapes

Successes
  • House of the Hanged Man (187374 Louvre)
  • Mont Sainte-Victoire,188587, Phillips Coll.,
    Washington, D.C.),
  • Still-lifes (e.g., The Kitchen Table, 188890,
    Louvre),
  • figural groupings (e.g., The Card Players,
189092 one version, S.C. Clark Coll., New York
    City).

5
My Nomination to the Art History Hall of Fame
  • I believe that Cezanne should be nominated to the
Art History Hall of Fame because his influence on
the course of modern art, specifically the
    development of cubism, is enormous.
