Description:

Amalfi is the main town of the coast on which it is located, named Costiera Amalfitana (Amalfi Coast), and is today an important tourist destination together with other towns on the same coast, such as Positano, Ravello and others. Amalfi is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. At the top of a staircase, Saint Andrew's Cathedral (Duomo) overlooks the Piazza Duomo, the heart of Amalfi. The cathedral dates back to the 11th century; The cloister leads into the Basilica of the Crucifix, dating from the 10th century and containing more treasures. The Basilica of the Crucifix, dedicated first to the Assumption, then to Sts. Cosmas e Damian, draws its name from the crucifix once placed on the altar. Dates back to 1996 the establishment of Museum collecting silver, vestments, crosses and shrines belonging to the Cathedral treasure, as well as valuable sculptures and paintings of various origin and history. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

The Tuscan poet and writer Renato
Fucini (1843-1921) once wrote, Judgment Day will
feel like any other day to the people of Amalfi
who will go to Paradise.
The Amalfi Coast boasts one of the most stunning
views in Italy
What stands out amongst Amalfi's many riches is
without a doubt the magnificent Cathedral, a true
jubilation of art dedicated to Sant'Andrea patron
of the city

Duomo
Basilica of the Crucifix
The cloister
Originally there were two churches, both with
three naves. The first one (the Church of the
Crucifix) is the old Cathedral, reconstructed
between 959 and 1004 the second, wider and with
a transept, was built some time before 1066, when
its bronze doors were cast in Constantinople.
The cloister leads into the Basilica of the
Crucifix, dating from the 10th century and
containing more treasures. The basilica now
houses the cathedral's museum and treasury
