Description:

Amalfi is the main town of the coast on which it is located, named Costiera Amalfitana (Amalfi Coast), and is today an important tourist destination together with other towns on the same coast, such as Positano, Ravello and others. Amalfi is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. At the top of a staircase, Saint Andrew's Cathedral (Duomo) overlooks the Piazza Duomo, the heart of Amalfi. The cathedral dates back to the 11th century; The preserved bones of the apostle Andrew was brought to Amalfi by the Papal Envoy to the Fourth Crusade, Cardinal Pietro Capuano. The remains of St. Andrew were reportedly brought to Amalfi from Constantinople in 1206; in 1208, the crypt was completed and the relics were turned over to the church – PowerPoint PPT presentation

What stands out amongst Amalfi's many riches is
without a doubt the magnificent Cathedral, a true
jubilation of art dedicated to Sant'Andrea patron
of the city
The Amalfi Coast boasts one of the most stunning
views in Italy
The patron saint of Amalfi is Saint Andrew, the
Apostle, whose relics are kept here at Amalfi
Cathedral (Cattedrale di Sant'Andrea/Duomo di
Amalfi).

Duomo
Basilica of the Crucifix
The cloister
During the Fourth Crusade, Cardinal Pietro
Capuano swiped Andrew's relics from
Constantinople and brought them to Amalfi. The
relics arrived on May 8, 1208 and were placed in
the cathedral's crypt, where they remain today.
The cloister leads into the Basilica of the
Crucifix, dating from the 10th century. Stairs
near the east end descend into the Crypt of St.
Andrew, where the saint's relics are kept in the
central altar.
