3The National Archaeological Museum of Naples
(MANN) is an important Italian archaeological
museum, particularly for ancient Roman remains.
The museum hosts extensive collections of Greek
and Roman antiquities. The greater part of the
museum's classical sculpture collection largely
comes from the Farnese Marbles, important since
they include Roman copies of classical Greek
sculpture, which are in many cases the only
surviving indications of what the lost works by
ancient Greek sculptors such as Calamis,
Kritios and Nesiotes looked like

of Agrippa in Rome in order to celebrate the

Galatians in 37 BC. The statues, discovered in
1514, belonged to the Medici Orsini family and to
Margaret of Austria then they were acquired by
the Farnese family

originals that once adorned Athens. The Dying

10The Fallen The Giant The ensemble of sculptures
commemorated the military campaigns of the
Attalid dynasty. The monument depicting
mythological and historical battles with the
enemies of Pergamon and the Greek world clashes
with Giants and Amazons, the repulsion of raids
by the Gauls and victory over the Persians
became known as the Lesser Dedication, because it
was of smaller size than the Greater Attalid
