Title: English Definitions for Legal Terms

1
https//legaldictionary.net/palimony
Palimony refers to alimony-like support payments
that are made by one unmarried partner to another
upon splitting up after having previously lived
together. The term palimony was actually made
famous by the case involving actor Lee Marvin and
his long-term partner. Palimony may be paid in
monthly payments or as one lump-sum settlement,
depending on what the parties to the action
ultimately agree.

https//legaldictionary.net/parricide/
Parricide is the act of murdering ones close
relative, be it a parent, sibling, or another
similarly close relative. In many cases, those
who commit parricide are either mentally ill, or
have been subjected to ongoing physical or sexual
abuse at the hands of the murdered relative.
3
https//legaldictionary.net/franking-privilege/
The franking privilege, enacted in 1775, allows
members of Congress to mail their letters without
postage. In lieu of a stamp, members instead use
a stamp consisting of their signatures. Congress,
at a later time, and through the legislative
branch, then reimburses the U.S. Postal Service
for their franked mail.
4
https//legaldictionary.net/motion-to-compel/
In any legal action, whether civil or criminal,
all of the parties to the action are entitled to
receive information and evidence from the other
parties, though they have to ask for it
specifically. This is usually done through a
series of requests that the other party answer
questions, and provide documents or other items.
Should a party refuse to provide the information,
a request can be made that the court order or
compel the party to comply with the request.
This is called a Motion to Compel.
5
https//legaldictionary.net/implied-warranty/
This type of warranty provides a guarantee that
the product suggested or recommended by a
salesperson is suitable, or fit, for a
particular use. This warranty typically comes
into play when a buyer requests a product for a
specific purpose, then purchases a product based
on the sellers specific recommendation.
6
https//legaldictionary.net/bond-indenture/
A contract or written agreement between the
issuer of a bond and the bondholder or investor
is referred to a bond indenture. The bond
indenture specifies the terms of the contract,
including the interest rate, convertibility,
maturity date, and other important terms.
7
https//legaldictionary.net/inverse-condemnation/
It is possible that a private company be granted
the power to condemn or take property in the name
of a government authority, in order to accomplish
a project intended to benefit the public. For
instance, a private redevelopment company might
be tasked with the revitalization of a depressed
area of the city, and given authority to obtain a
certain area of properties through eminent
domain. All this would be done by the authority
of the city government.
8
https//legaldictionary.net/romer-v-evans/
Multiple municipalities in Colorado passed
ordinances prohibiting discrimination on the
basis of sexual orientation. Colorado voters
responded by passing a law called Amendment two,
which prevented the government from intervening
to protect the status of persons based on sexual
orientation conduct, practices, or relationships.
9
https//legaldictionary.net/false-arrest/
A false arrest is an arrest that is made without
a warrant, or without probable cause. It is
possible to sue law enforcement officials for
false arrest. However, those who are typically
sued for false arrest include businesses, private
citizens, private security, or bounty hunters.
