SDIP Pilot
  • Paid under authority of Assignment Incentive Pay
    (AIP) Program
  • Only applicable to SEA duty (Types 2 and 4)
  • Targeted by community and paygrade
  • Initially offered 15 March 2007 to
  • ABCM, ABECS, ABFCS, ABHCS, EN1, FC2(Aegis)
  • Revised 25 June 2007 to include
  • ABHC, AOCS, ENCM, MMCM(SW)(non-nuke), DCCM, EN2,
    EM2(SW)(non-nuke), FC1-FCCM(Aegis),
    ET1-ETCM(SS)(14NV), MMC(SS)(sub weapons)

Designed to increase sea manning.

  • Sea Duty Extension
  • Minimum 6 months 24 month max (36 mo OCONUS or
    Hawaii units)
  • Should request at least 6-12 months prior to PRD
  • Recommended by CO
  • Fixed rate (500/750 per month as starting
    rate)
  • Lump Sum payment first month of extension

  • Must complete at least 24 months shore tour
  • Must curtail tour by at least 6 months
  • Selected activities exempt (Recruiting/RDCs,
    etc.)
  • Recommended by CO

  • Lump Sum payment upon reporting to sea duty

Findings
  • SDIP is proving successful in attracting
    volunteers to increase their sea tours
  • Curtailments do not seem to be as attractive as
    extensions
  • Cost/benefit is excellent
  • Minimal economic rent associated with program
  • Extensions by senior individuals may be partially
    influenced by other factors (i.e. geographic
    stability)
  • Its time to reevaluate existing and new
    candidates
