3ASAS - A Mature System
- Block I
- Began fielding in 1993, Completed in 1999
- Well over 1,000 systems world wide
- 77 AC/RC sites using ASAS
- Steadily improved and upgraded
4Block I
5ASAS is Modernizing
- Block II Remote Workstation (RWS) passed MSIII,
Summer 1999 - ACT-Enclave successfully completed test Summer
2000 and received permission to begin fielding - Already Fielded Block II RWS to all III Corps and
USASOC - Began fielding RWS to XVIII Corps in 4th qtr 2000
- ASAS is the first ABCS system to move to its
second generation system

7ASAS - NEXT
- COMMON
- 1 ea SIGINT Processor (TES Based)
- 1 ea IMINT Processor (TES Based)
- 1 ea CI / HUMINT Processor (ASAS)
- 1 ea MASINT Processor (ASAS)
- 1 ea OSINT Processor (ASAS)
8All Source Analysis System - ASASAnalysis
Control Element (ACE)
- Heart Beat Brains of ASAS - Combines SS
INT Analysis into All Source Correlated
Intelligence - Development Delayed 3 years! -
Must Include Non-Standard threat analysis -
Funds lacking due to ABCS Common
application development - PM still developing
work package/schedule

9Remote Workstation Block II V4
- Greatly improved collateral level Intelligence
Processing - Increased standard division authorizations
from only 2 Block I system to 20 Block II (plus
3 ACT- Enclaves with 2 RWS each) - Block II V4 RWS is the new Army Standard which
is trained at Fort Huachuca, in use in all of
III Corps - RWS V6 - The ABCS version represents a
significant step backwards in MI functionality
and system stability
20 RWS 3 ACT-E (2 RWS each)
10ASAS Light
- First ABCS Laptop NT System to undergo MS III
level test (test complete Oct 00) - Designed for Maneuver Battalion S-2 and Light
Brigades - Represents subset of full RWS capabilities but
full ABCS interoperable
11All Source Analysis System (ASAS) Analysis and
Control Team (ACT) Enclave
- Provides Brigade Commander with near real time
enemy situation awareness to view the battlespace
with more effective tactical warning and force
protection - Supports the Warfighters battle management by
rapidly processing large volumes of intelligence
and sensor data - Provides a self-contained, rapidly deployable
intelligence processing capability at brigade - Theater independent and operates across the
spectrum of conflict - Provides a mobile analytical capability to
Brigade Commander that was traditionally found at
Division - Materiel Release granted in SEP 00 !

Workstation
. Collateral SS HUMINT analysis tool . Using
RACHET as prototype . Entry level, Textual Data
search, Link-node analysis - First viable tool
at non-standard threat analysis . OP EVAL

14CHATS System Description
- CI/HUMINT Automated Tool Set (CHATS)
- Provides automated support to mobile CI/HUMINT
Teams from EAC to the brigade level - Consists of COTS hardware and software along with
some government develop software - Used to manage CI/HUMINT assets, collect
information, and report tactically significant
information - Automated support includes
- Mapping tools
- Data management tools
- Reporting tools
- Notebook Computer
- Color Inkjet Printer
- Color Scanner
- Digital Camera
- LAN and Modem Communications
- Integrated Power Case
15INDIVIDUAL TACTICAL REPORTING TOOL (ITRT)
- INITIAL CAPABILITY FORECAST
- COTS SW - WORDPROCESSING, GRAPHICS
- SOME REPORTING FORMATS RESIDENT
- DIGITAL IMAGERY - RECEIVE, PROCESS. STORE
- PULL MAP SHEETS/PORTIONS OF MAP
- DOCK WITH CHATS - CNR?
- LOCAL DB
- CARRY IN COAT/SPORT COAT POCKET
Challenges Accreditation SW development

NOTE REPRESENTATIVE ONLY - CASIO PALMTOP
16Trusted Workstation (TWS)
. Multi level security device . Takes SCI
products, machine assist sanitize - push to
multiple receivers . Currently used by
4ID, and in Bosnia . 1 per ACE, however need
to push ahead of ACE fielding
17Tactical Intelligence Product Server(TIPS)
. Currently in RD . Multi-echelon
server/Homepage . ACE posts - collateral
world/allies pull . 1 Per ACE, same as TWS
need to push ahead of ACE
18Communications Control SetCCS
- Combined two versions to 1 baseline last year
- 98-99 upgraded CCS Worldwide (Y2K)
- Improving reliability, connectivity capability
steadily - Integrate Joint Tactical Terminal (JTT)
19Joint Interoperability
- ASAS to GCCS interoperability exists
- Doctrinal route is sound
- Interoperability Challenges
- Message Database formats differ between ASAS
and GCCS - Each CINCs intelligence needs differ slightly
- But the link does work
20Other Interoperability Capabilities
- Exchange Messages
- View Graphics
- Share Imagery
- Collaboration/Chat
- Email
- Web Browser
21Issue Concerns
- ACE Development slowed, now due in 03, yet this
is the centerpiece of ASAS. Must not allow any
further delay. - ABCS V6 ASAS, represents significant step
backwards in functionality and stability.
Estimate 18-24 months just to achieve present V4
capability. - Joint Interoperability is progressing, but is
difficult due to service unique infrastructures
in so-called Joint Systems. - ASAS still has a weakness in assisting analysts
in performing SASO/SSC analysis. Priority has
fallen below ABCS work, thus this shortfall
remains.
22Summary
- ASAS complex, yet meeting user needs
- Resource constraints slowing functionality needed
now - Still remains the most successful ABCS system
