WATER, SOURCE OF LIFE
May, 2006
2It doesnt have form, colour or smell and when it
is clean it is tasteless. We can see directly
through it and we often dont notice it.But it
is still the most important substance besides air
for survival.
3IMAGINE that you are a water molecule and
that you are travelling on our planet. You would
be in the air for 9 days, in a river for 2 weeks,
in soil for 1 year, a big lake would host you for
10 years, you would be in a shallow sea for 120
years, underground for 50 to 200 years, in an
ocean for 3,000 to 5,000 years, and you would be
frozen in the ice cap of Antarctica for 10,000 to
100,000 years.
4Water talks continuously but it never repeats
itself.
- 97 of water is in oceans
- 2 is captured in snow and in glaciers
- 1 of water is suitable for drinking, but only
one third is accessible to humans and the whole
civilization relies on this third.
