Title: P100 Industry Day
1P-100Industry Day
2What is the P100?
The Facilities Standards for the Public Buildings
Service The P100 is a mandatory standard. It is
not a guideline, textbook, handbook, training
manual, nor substitute for technical
competence. The standards represent the current
state of practice in designing facilities to meet
GSA's commitments, maximize the efficiency of
business processes, and comply with the
requirements of law. The Facilities Standards
must be used in conjunction with the building
program for each project.
3Application of the P100
- Applies to all new building projects
- Applies to Repair and Alteration projects
- Applies to Modernization projects
- Applies to Lease Construct with Government Option
to Purchase - Does not apply to Lease Construct

conservation and sustainability. - Clarify what is required as opposed to what is
recommended. - Simplify the document by not repeating what is
detailed elsewhere.
7Major Revisions
- Break Chapter 1 into an Introduction and General
Requirements - Site Design as a part of Architecture
- Reformat the chapters to clarify what is required
v what is recommended - Incorporated new energy requirements
- Integrate security requirements
- Put secondary information in an Appendix
- Incorporate new lessons learned - UFAD
8General Chapter Format
- General Intent of the Chapter
- Codes and Regulations
- GSA Programs Affected by Chapter

- Energy Star Target Finder for energy budget
- Lower lighting intensity
- WaterSense and low water use
- More LEEDs and Sustainable design
- Building Envelope and Energy Analysis
12How are the standards enforced?
- P100 is a mandatory contract requirement
- During specific design reviews
- Reviews are conducted by independent design
firms, CMa, and GSA. - Commissioner of the public building service
