Theoretical Objections to Counterplans

• There are certain reasons why some counterplans
  might be unfair
• One reason is that
• international FIAT
• might be bad

FIAT

• FIAT the power to put your plan into action
• We pretend in debate that we are the Congress, or
  the President, or the Supreme Court
• There is an argument that FIAT should be limited
  to the United States

Plan Inclusive Counterplan

• Plan is give money to Solar and Wind
• Counterplan is only give money to Wind
• Its called plan inclusive because the counterplan
  includes part of the plan, the giving money to
  wind part.
• Wind is bad because it kills the birdies.
• Mutually exclusive cant do both without
  killing birdies.

Illegitimate Permutations

• Permutation has to be the combination of ALL of
  the PLAN and PART or ALL of the Counterplan
• Why must a permutation be all of the plan?

• Counterplans like consult or delay rely on
  implicit assumptions the negative should be able
  to make about the plan text even though they
  arent actually written into the plan text.
• 1. The plan happens immediately
• 2. The Aff always happens

Why do you just get to assume?

• What happens if the aff doesnt always have to
  say their affirmative happens immediately?
• What happens if the aff doesnt always have to
  defend the plan happening?

Consult Counterplans

• So youre counterplan says Consult the EU before
  you do the plan, if the EU says no, we wont do
  it.
• Thats good because our evidence says the EU will
  be happy we asked.
• It probably solves the case because they like the
  plan according to our evidence, and the tiny risk
  theyd say no is outweighed by the big advantage
  of looking nice and asking first.

Whats so unfair about it?

• You havent changed anything about the plan
  really it happens a little bit later, and there
  is a small chance that it might not happen at
  all, but a big chance of the advantage of asking
  happening regardless of what they say.
• It forces the aff into a box without much to say,
  which is how it should be.

WARNING!

• You will do nothing but debate theoryover and
  over again.
• Some judges hate this argument so much you have
  to absolutely lay the smack down on the aff to
  win the ballot, otherwise theyll vote aff when
  its close.

But here is how it is done

• The permutation to do both wont make the
  country happy because it looks shady if there is
  a plan being consulted on that passes congress
  before the consultations are over.
• The permutation to consult afterwards doesnt
  work because if you ask after you do something,
  your not asking your informing, so the US looks
  like its talking down to other countries.
• The permutation to do the counterplan is
  illegitimate it delays the plan by about a half
  a day, but any delay is bad. Where do you draw
  the line. The aff cant delay their plan to get
  out of arguments. On top of that it also makes it
  so the plan might not happen which lets aff get
  out of any argument they want if they can just
  cancel the plan.
• The permutation to lie to the country is
  illegitimate because it also delays the plan
  while we lie. Its also intrinsic because the
  counterplan doesnt include lying, just genuine
  consultation.
• The permutation to consult on issues other than
  the plan is intrinsic because the counterplan
  only talks about consulting on the plan, and you
  could consult on something the country hates that
  the US does and change it, like consult on
  whether or not we should sell the country all our
  nuclear weapons to them for a penny. You could
  get unfair advantages by consulting on other
  issues.

Here is how its beaten.

• Its mostly a large theory debate that judges are
  happy to vote for you on.
• The counterplan steals the entire aff word for
  word, aside from that being patently unfair, we
  spend the whole time debating theory and learning
  nothing.
• Run all the permutations and make them answer
  them all, then go for perm do both and perm do
  the counterplan.
• Argue that the country will say no and that even
  if they didnt either the US consults them all
  the time so consulting on the plan is an
  understood part of doing the plan or we never
  consult them so nothing bad will happen if we
  dont consult them now on the plan.
