Adverbs modify
  • a verb -not a linking verb (He drove slowly.

Adverbs can also
  • Often be identified by the suffix ly, unless the
    word root is Noun (happily, sadly, generously,
    but not manly, friendly, neighborly, etc.)

Adverbial Clause
  • If a group of words containing a subject and verb
    acts as an adverb (modifying the verb of a
    sentence), it is called an Adverb Clause
  • When this class is over, we're going to the
    movies.
  • Because she no longer respected her boyfriend,
    she decided it was best to break up.
  • As he continued studying, Taylor finally
    understood the Quadratic Formula.
  • Remember the clause is an adverb if you can move
    it to another part of the sentence.
