  • 3 exam papers

KS3 ENGLISH EXAM
  • The English tests award students with a Level
    between 4 and 7. The papers are not tiered.
  • Students working below Level 4 are entered for an
    alternative exam, marked internally.

RESULTS
  • Due to the amount of marking involved in the
    English exams, the school does not receive the
    English Sats results until August 2006.
  • Consequently, students will not receive their
    Levels until the beginning of year 10.

PAPER 1 READING
  • 1hr 15 mins
  • Students read 3 passages which are thematically
    linked.
  • 15 mins reading time.
  • Students answer a set of questions about the
    passages which test their reading and
    understanding.

PAPER 2 SHAKESPEARE
  • 45 mins
  • Students study two set scenes from a Shakespeare
    play (this year The Tempest).
  • A comparative answer is required in response to a
    given task.

PAPER 3 WRITING
  • 1hr 15mins
  • Students have two tasks
  • Longer writing task
  • (45 mins)
  • Shorter writing task
  • (30 mins)

HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT YOUR CHILD ?
  • Remind them to attend lunchtime revision sessions
    on Tuesdays in E1
  • Ensure they refer to the Top Tips guide they
    will be given in class
  • Consider buying the revision guides available
    through school
