- Open Photoshop
- Hold down AltCtrlShift right after clicking on
icon to reset palettes - Create a new document with the following specs
- Name it Front

- Layers
- Layers are like pieces of transparency stacked on
top of one another with each one having a portion
of the image on it - The layers palette lists these layers in order
from top to bottom. For instance anything on
Layer 1 on the next slide would appear on top
of anything on the Background layer

Active layer indicates the layer in which you
are currently working Visibility allows you to
toggle seeing whats on a layer Layer style
effects such as outer glow, drop shadow, bevel

colors are included - Change the Hue, Saturation and Lightness to

midtones or shadows) and exposure (how light you

- saturates color
- Choose the sponge tool from the toolbox (may be
hidden under the dodge tool) - Determine a brush size, mode (saturate or
desaturate) and flow (how much effect you want

- Unsharp Mask Filter
- sharpens by adjustments in pixel contrast rather

- Use Amount, Radius and Threshold sliders to get
the desired effect - Make sure the preview checkbox is chosen so you
can see changes before accepting them

- Clone Stamp Tool
- uses pixels from one area of an image to replace
pixels from another area - Choose the Clone Stamp tool from the toolbox
- Determine a brush size, mode (many to choose
from), opacity and flow (how much effect you want
with each swipe) from the tool options bar - Alt Click where you want to sample from (a target
will appear on the screen) - Release Alt and drag over the area you wish to
correct -

- Alignment and the Clone Stamp Tool
- Alignment is a check box in the tool options bar
- Checking alignment makes the tool continuously
sample pixels while you work maintaining a
constant distance from the position where you
first sampled. When alignment is not checked,
the tool continues to use the original area
sampled again and again. -

- Healing Brush
- paints with sampled pixels while matching
lighting, shading and texture of the pixels being
replaced - Choose the healing brush (band aid icon) from the
toolbox - Determine a brush size, mode and whether you want
to sample your replacement pixels or use a
pattern - Alt click to sample (a target will appear)
- Drag over area you wish to change
- Alignment for this tool carries the same
explaination as that for the Clone Stamp Tool

- Patch Tool
- replaces a selected area with sampled pixels
while matching lighting, shading and texture of
the pixels being replaced - Choose the Patch Tool (may be behind the Healing
Brush Tool) from the toolbox - Box icons in the tool options bar allow you to
choose a new selection or add, subtract or
intersect with an existing one - Encirle the area of the image you wish to repair
- Drag the circle to the area of the replacement
pixels

- Click and drag to create a selection box
- To adjust position of selection area, depress
spacebar without releasing mouse - When using the ellipse, press shift to produce a
perfect circle or Alt to draw from center

- Lasso Tool
- allows you to select by drawing around an image
- Choose the Lasso Tool from the toolbar
- Box icons in the tool options bar allow you to
choose a new selection or add, subtract or
intersect with an existing one - Feathering blurs the edges of the selection
- Click and trace area to be selected without
letting go of mouse button - If your selection is not a closed area, Photoshop
will draw a straight line from the point at which
you release the mouse to your beginning point

- Polygonal Lasso Tool
- allows you to select by drawing around an image
with fastening points - Choose the Polygonal Lasso Tool from the toolbar
- Box icons in the tool options bar allow you to
choose a new selection or add, subtract or
intersect with an existing one - Feathering blurs the edges of the selection
- Click to set fastening points around the area to
be selected - Double clicking before the selection is closed
will draw a straight line from the point at which
you double click to your first fastening point - Toggle between Lasso and Poly Lasso by holding
down Alt and letting go of the mouse and vice
versa

- Magnetic Lasso Tool
- allows you to select by drawing around an image
automatically snaps to high contrast edges - Choose the Magnetic Lasso Tool from the toolbar
- Box icons in the tool options bar allow you to
choose a new selection or add, subtract or
intersect with an existing one - Feathering blurs the edges of the selection
- Click and drag along edge to set random fastening
points - Double clicking before the selection is closed
will draw a straight line from the point at which
you double click to your first fastening point - You can create your own fastening points by
clicking - Pressing delete key removes fastening points in
reverse order

corner and choose large list from the dropdown - Choose the grass brush from the brush choices

green - Create a new layer and drag grass in front of the
tree and house to cover the ground

- Because brushes are sometimes hard to control,
using the history brush tool can be helpful - Click on the action in your history palette
before you drew anything with the brush (should
be new layer) - Your grass should be gone

- Now click the camera icon in the history palette
a thumbnail of your current drawing appears at
the top with snapshot 1 by it - Make sure the brush tool is chosen and that you
are on your grass layer and redraw your grass - Choose Multiply from the Mode dropdown in the
Tool Options Bar this makes the grass get
darker as you brush over it multiple times

- Click on the History Brush in the toolbar
- The History Brush will return any missteps with
the brush back to the way it was in snapshot 1

- Choose hard round 1 pixel from the tool options
bar - Create a new layer and draw lines on the tree
that resemble tree bark texture - Choose the blur tool and soften the lines as you
see fit -

- We want to put leaves on the tree but the only
leaf in the library is a maple we need to create
a custom brush - Go to the Internet and find a picture of an oak
leaf with which to make a pattern. - With the image open in Photoshop choose
EditgtDefine Brush. Choose a name for your brush
and click OK.

- Click on the Brushes palette is your palette
well. Make adjustments to your brush. You will
see the effects of your changes in the window at
the bottom. - When you are satisfied, create a new layer and
put your leaves on your tree. You may want to
make a new snapshot in the history palette before
you begin. - Get rid of unwanted leaves by using the eraser or
history brush
