  from the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA)
  ministerial held in Quito in October, 2002
• Improved Spanish language skills and learned
  terminology relevant to the field

• Created and revised capacity building modules for
  the UN Commission on Trade and Development
  (UNCTAD)
• Modules address all aspects of trade and
  environment negotiations
• The reports will serve as an educational program
  for other environmental NGOs

Finding and Funding the Internship

• Determined area of interest for thesis research
• Identified CEDA with assistance from colleagues
  at the Global Development and Environment
  Institute
• Contacted CEDA and discussed their needs and my
  interests to determine my placement in the
  organization
• Applied to Fletcher for funding and received a
  grant from the Henry R. Luce Foundation

Additional Research

• During the Spring 2003 semester at Fletcher I
  conducted research on trade and environment
  issues in Ecuador
• Set up interviews and site visits with NGOs and
  flower plantations to pursue thesis research
  while in Ecuador
• Conducted a Spanish language literature review on
  trade and the environment
