A Strange Truth
  • Problems are only problems depending upon your
    perspective.

7
Why Do Most People See it As a Problem?
  • The media presents one perspective the victims,
thus persuading people to give aid and persuading
people that the government didnt respond in a
    timely manner.
  • What about the other people, like the National
    Guard?
  • i.e. Helicopters in New Orleans

8
Hard Reality to Face
  • Problems are only problems depending upon the
perspective from which you are viewing the
    situation.
  • The loud neighbor next door, who is causing me
to not be able to do homework, is only a problem
to me. He is not a problem to himself or anyone
    else.
  • Flooding/Snow isnt a problem to children.

9
Parking Problem
  • Not a problem to an athlete
  • Not a problem to bus drivers/campus
    workers/policemen/traffic and parking
  • Not a problem to a rapist an opportunity

10
Why does any of this matter
  • In rhetoric?
  • In choosing a topic?
  • In argumentative writing?
  • In real world examples?
  • Problems are only problems depending upon the
perspective from which you are viewing the
    situation.

11
Five Paragraph Essay
12
Reasons that the 5 paragraph essay doesnt
always work.
  • My claim is that My next door neighbor should
not play the guitar after 11 p.m.
  • How might I persuade my neighbor?
  • Loud noise levels cause you to lose hearing
  • I cant study
  • Insult him

13
Draft 2.1
  • Topic

14
2.1 Draft
  • Need a small topic (fewer people impacted)
  • One that can be solved
  • One where you've considered the audience and
    their opinions (English Grads)
  • One where you've considered other people's
perspective - if we solve this, will we create
    more problems?

15

  • Friday Topic Post 2
  • Monday Writing Review 1.3
