  • There is one more type of scholarship available.
It is known as the ASE Scholarship. To earn this
youll need to sign-up and pass up to nine ASE
exams. These tests are offered twice a year by
ASE. Youll hear more about ASE as you continue
    taking classes in the program.
  • Youll be awarded 50 for each test passed up
to 450 in all. As you progressively pass these
tests, simply show a copy of your scores to our
    secretaries in Austin 106.
  • If you are receiving university scholarship
money that equals full tuition amount, you cannot
qualify for any more than that amount. This is
    university policy

Specific program Info
  • Do not take Comm 399, B 398 B 101.
  • These classes are NOT required for a degree in
    automotive.
  • A 298 and A 398 are internship experiences.
Only one internship is required for
    graduation.
  • Math 221, Acct 180, CIT 140 and Econ 112 are
    prerequisites to the IBC
  • The IBC is a group of business classes that add
up to 12 credits in all. These are all taken in
    the same semester.
  • The IBC is a bit of an intense experience. It
is highly recommended that you take a simple type
of class at the same time say a 2 two credit
religion class in order to maintain 14 credits
    qualifying for university scholarship monies.
The IBC will keep you busy.

Job search tip from a program graduate

I have visited with Eakas (the company I will
be working for) and they seem excited to have me
start. I will start work the 2nd of july and
will keep you informed. I wanted to send you a
few of the resources I used in finding job
openings. From what I can tell every state has a
job search website, for example Arkansasjobs.com.
I would just visit these sites and search for
jobs with keywords like Automotive, and
management. I had interviews with Goodyear,
Bridgestone/firestone, and couple of big
dealerships from searches. Monster.com, and
Google/jobs also turn up lots of job openings for
our degrees. I will be getting a company email
and everything next week. So I'll be sure and
send it to you. Thanks again Brother Spratling,
I'll talk to you soon. Brad Shelton

Job search tip from a program graduate
  • I am not sure if you had received my message from
about a week ago, but I found employment with
Hatch Motor Co at their Ford Dealership as a
service advisor. They sell many different types
of vehicles and they even do motorsports sales
and services and they are all over AZ, all there
dealerships are LDS owned and run and they have
many locations throughout the state of AZ. If
anyone is interrested in opportunities in AZ with
Hatch Motor Co they should check out our web site
at hatchmotorco.com. My boss was suprised and
thrilled at the same time to learn that there is
actually a degree in automotive management, and
that there was something that actually educated
students on how to do his job. So tell everyone
that there is no reason to be discouraged because
there is still a lot of opportunity out there.
  •
  • Thanks again for all that you have done over the
years to make the program what it is. This is
just a thought but maybe there could be a class
that helps prepare you better for a service
advisor/writer position as part of the management
program for our major, but that is just a
    thought.
  •
  • Have a great day.

18
Philosophy of learning
  • Mastery of automotive technology is possible for
those who take responsibility of their learning.
  • Learning is an active process on the part of the
    learner
  • When learning is based on faith in Christ,
content can be understood and mastered.
  • There are times that we must work alone and times
that we need to work with others.

19
Departments Mission
  • Prepare students to compete successfully in the
automotive workforce or continue their education
    in a higher degree program.
  • Strengthen the automotive workforce by providing
well trained, honest employees who exemplify the
high ideals and standards of the church in their
    chosen professions.
  • To become good providers for their families and
to contribute to the Church and their
    communities.
