What Happened?
  • It began with Soviet Unions launching of the
    Sputnik Satellite.
  • The United States who feared attack from space
drew them into the Space Race trying to catch up
    to the Soviet Union.
  • The Space Race was predominantly the space to the
    moon.
  • The Space Race to the moon ended in July, 1969
when Americans successfully set foot on the moon.
  • "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap
    for mankind." - Neil Armstrong

Mistrust/Miscommunication
  • The Space Race clearly determines the mistrust
and miscommunication between the US and the USSR.
  • When the USSR launched Sputnik, the US did not
trust them and feared future attack from space.
(no communication was made to try and resolve
    this fear)
  • The USSRs secretively engaged space missions may
have been misinterpreted by the US.
  • The US did not trust the USSR to dominate space.

Great Power Competition

between two Great Superpowers The USA and USSR.

    headline-making "firsts" the first satellite,
first robotic spacecraft to the Moon, first man
in space, first woman in space, first space
