Title: Discrimination

1
Discrimination
  • How We Can Learn From Our History To Prevent
    Discrimination

2
Main Points on Discrimination
  • What is Discrimination?
  • Who is affected by discrimination?
  • How has History repeated itself when dealing with
    discrimination?
  • How can we learn from our History about how to
    prevent discrimination?
  • What can I do to prevent discrimination?

3
Definition of Discrimination
  • People who are treated differently based upon
their sex, race, color, nationality, ethnic or
    national origins or married status.

4
Who is affected?
  • Everyone
  • Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, Asians, etc.
  • Disabled
  • Homeless
  • Homosexuals
  • Workers

5
Repeated History
  • History repeats itself, thats a fact
  • Example The treatment of the Japanese Americans
during WWII vs. the treatment of the Afghani
    Americans after Sept. 11
  • Both were races persecuted after a terrible
attack on America by person(s) of the same race
  • Yet after realizing the mistakes we made with the
Chinese we still are carrying out similar acts of
    discrimination with the Afghani people

6
How can we prevent it?
  • We must look at our past mistakes for answers
  • Example If you miss a problem on a test
  • You go back and figure out what you did wrong
  • Then you dont repeat the same mistake twice
  • Americans must look at our past and not repeat
ourselves no matter how desperate the situation.
  • Another way to prevent discrimination is to never
hold prejudice against a human being for how they
look, dress, or live there every day life.

7
What is prejudice?
  • An opinion, judgment, preference, or conception
formed without knowing or examining the facts.
  • Basically prejudice is the prejudgment of another
human being before knowing who the person really
    is

8
What Can You Do To Prevent Discrimination
  • Dont judge someone or something you do not know
  • Dont persecute someone for something you do not
    understand
  • Dont let fear get in the way of logical thinking

9
History and the Present
  • History is a valuable tool in learning
  • History can help us overcome obstacles not just
in terms of discrimination but with all aspects
of life discrimination is a small part of our
    history
  • We must apply history to the present day
