(The Cardmakers Pageant)

The wagon is pulled through the streets by the
cast, with help from wagon handlers.
The standard identifies the company presenting
the pageant the Parish of Wheldrake.
Cast members not involved in moving the wagon
process with it.
The wagon will stop at the station, directly in
front of audience members
The pageant wagon, preceded by the standard
bearers, approaches the square.

Angels carry the scenic elementcardboard cutouts
of night sky.

Sternes and planetis þe courses to goo
God creates night and day as the angelic choir
sings.

The standard remains visible throughout the
pageant.
Stairs to get on and off the stage
Angels in the cast create Paradise by bringing
to the stage cutouts of animals and plants.

For love made I þis worlde alone
Ther fore my loue schalle in it seme
To kepe þis worlde bothe more and lesse
A skylfull beeste þan wylle y make
After my schappe and my liknesse
The whille shalle wirshippe to me take
Note the construction of the wagon. The tongue is
stored beneath until needed after the pageant to
move the wagon to the next station.
God surveys his creation as the Angels look on.

I schalle make man like unto me
Rise uppe þou erthe in bloode and bone
In shappe of man Icomannde þe
Adam emerges from the bed of the wagon. Note the
slit in the grass that allows him to rise
miraculously from the earth without having been
visible earlier.
God creates Adam from the dust of the earth.

Here schalle y make of thy lefte rybbe
Eve appears from the same floor slot as Adam.
God makes Eve from Adams left rib.

þis ffemalle take þou to þi wiffe
Notice that the suits lace up and that Adams has
a trap door in the front.
To simulate nudity, Adam and Eve wore suits of
tawed leather (white leather) that looked much
like long underwear.
Eve becomes Adams wife.

God blesses his creation, and rests on the 7th
day.
